A question that comes up often with students that studied abroad, and are now planning on continuing their education or career in the United States, is where to evaluate an international degree in USA? Before you can use your international degree to study, work, or obtain a professional license in the United States, it needs to be evaluated by a credential evaluation company. A curriculum evaluation or evaluation of an international degree is performed to assess the equivalent level of education achieved in the United States.
There are several reasons why you may need to get your degree evaluated. Perhaps you’re a foreign student who wants to study at an American university or you’re looking for a job in the United States. Maybe you’re an exchange student who needs to have their credits transferred back to their home school. Whatever the reason, there are a few things you should know about how to evaluate an international degree in the United States.
Why You Need an Evaluation
As mentioned earlier, there are many reasons why somebody might need to get their foreign academic credentials evaluated. Many employers in the United States require that applicants have their degree evaluated as part of the hiring process. If you want to obtain a professional license, such as for engineering or nursing, most states will require that your foreign degree be evaluated as well.
Some universities will also require that prospective students have their degrees evaluated before they can be accepted into a program. This is especially common for graduate programs but may also be required for undergraduate programs if your transcripts are from a country where the grading system is unfamiliar or misleading.
